Is it OK to sleep in a mine?

Postby Chimm » Mon Feb 29, 2016 12:20 pm

I am starting mining and I am not quite sure what I should and should not do in a mine. E.g. people said that rules had changed and darkness in the mine does not matter any more for insanity.

So my question: Is it OK to build a Leafy Bed inside the mine and sleep down there, or should I rather sleep outside in the nature? Do I gain insanity when I sleep in the mine?

I have no idea but I think your best bet would be to have a few jack-o-lanterns around. They stay lit for a while and if you stagger their lighting then when one goes out you can simply light it off one of the others. I very much doubt you will gain insanity while you are sleeping but spending too much time in the dark of the mine will probably start to sap away at your insanity more then you want to. Other then that keep a few daises around - their petals are great for quick studies.
Do not argue with idiots, for they will pull you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Is it per study that you get insanity reduced, or per total proficiencies learned, or per levels gained, or what?

You know how much the Devs love keeping people in the dark about mechanics like that but from what they have said it seems to be simply each time you study an item you drop a little insanity. I think they said it was like one study every 8 min or something. Never done any testing on exact numbers but it would seem that simply studying is all that is needed to keep the insanity in check.

Cool thanks, I've been trying to fend it off with big study sessions every X hours but I'll try switching it up with a slow drip instead.

Am I right, that starting a day sleeping 8 hours in a bed, my insanity level is on the lowest point?
So insanity can not add up over several days, if you sleep every night for 8 hours?

See http://salemwiki.info/index.php/Leafy_Bed:

Sleeping in a bed will reset your Insanity to the lowest point of your current Madness level after 8 hours of sleep. Beds will not lower Madness levels unless you go to sleep with a Teddybear as well.

I believe someone said that was changed so that beds no longer reset insanity, I asked for clarification on whether that was so and that the wiki was out of date but only got a typically unhelpful Dallane reply and wasn't able to find patch notes for it... So not sure. Just from in-game experience it does not seem like beds do this, but maybe others can confirm definitively.

Edit: I think this came up before, but if you just buy a +200 affinity set (only takes a handful of geodes) which costs a few hundred so you can use the hookah den, and also get a teddy bear... Between the two of those you'll be quite able to keep madness down.

You can sleep in a mine. I keep multiple characters in my mine and have never noticed random madness gains from just leaving them logged off there.
