how does splash damage works exactly

Wiki is not very detailed on this subject. I did some my own tests and I found following: Can somone confirm that I got this right ?
1) when I destroy gate it does not seems to cause splash (tested once)
2)fence that is outside of my claim can damage my own fence on the claim when destroyed. (tested) This is probably quite exploitable if its really true unless you dont claim 5 tiles away from yours fence.
3)There is some time splash damage wont work after fence gets constructed and its new. looks like its abouot 3 days.
3)splash will get applied only from higher tier fence or same tier. Plank fence cant damage brick.
4)there is diffrent damage % per fence type. looks like stone will take +- about 80% of the HP from another stone. What is this splash damage % for plank and brick fence ? Is it same ?
5)damage has range about 4 blocks and building some cheap fence in between 2 layers of stone fences wont help you to prevent it.

I'll shoot down the list in order

1) Your observation is correct, gates don't splash..
2) In my tests walls off-claim splashing onto a claimed fence did reduced damage. In addition it takes a full week (Of server up time) for walls to be able to splash at all, so it's not as bad as you think.
3)See answer 2) the time is 1 week for splash to become active
4)all walls are roughly the same, except for twig which 100% splashes (gates will impede the progress of the splash, as they do not have any themselves)
5) It's a bit diffrent here, corners splash further then wall segments (up to 6 squares in my testing) while segments only splash immediately next to themselves.

Those two are not fully correct.

More thorough testing to be done then, If only I didn't need to wait a full week.

I am fairly certain that a wall segment will splash outward, not just along the length, so long as there are segments to either side of it. A signpost for a wall segment used to count as a segment, don't know if that is still true. I don't recall the effect of a segment only on one side.

In all of my testing (~2 months ago) I was unable to get stone hedge segments to splash (directly away from me) over an open gap of even 2 tiles to another stone hedge segment. If I recall I had 3 segments lined up at varying distances and only the two that were 'touching' splashed.

Gates do splash, but only onto other gates of equal or lower walls.
That is a very good thing or exchaning locks would be quite a mess.^^

Afaik splash can go over a distance or many tiles, but it is exponentially less likely for every additional tile distance. Like 5 tiles is already extremely unlikely.

Yes. I think splash can go as far as render distance, but even at 7 spaces you're already in the less than one in ten thousand chance range. 5 spaces is less than 5% chance.

Thanks for reply guys . Would be not bad to add this to wiki. :) So watch out for suspecious wall segments apearing near claims but good to know its 7 days time.

o and while we are at this subject can somone tell me why are wall reparis sooooo expensive ? I dont ged it. I wanted to change my walls for a bit and now its becoming nightmare thanks to splash damage and repair cost.
Took me while to realize I should destroy fence rather than fix it ... I think I will need like 1000 dry planks to fix that old damaged fence I originaly thinked was such great idea to use or 100000 food and 100 hours of time.
