yes, if you want to keep the field.
after putting a lot of humus and seeds on it you can fertilize it like a fresh field.
you could throw salt on it and make a new one instead, if its purity doesn't matter to you.
Jesus died for our sins. You should do the same.

Yeah so you have to put almost a whole compost bin of humus on it and 12x as many seeds as when it's 50%... However once they're actually planted it drops down to 100% (confusing, but thank god), so you just have to spam woodchips down from 100% not from 600%.

Probably a good time to use some low purity crap seeds, I like to use a John Carver Poop on them when it happens so I can put a carver poop on it, spam chips, and then have it be done in a few hours and have the next planting be only a few hours behind all the other fields and fertilized normally.

I'm pretty noobish when it comes to farming though, so take my strategy with a grain of salt. (though not on your fields hur hur hur)

Well despite you saying you are noobish that is the way to do it if you want 50% upkeep if you don't have carver poop you can just dross it about 5 times then bomb it with woodchips and that will give you just about the same result; the field will be done the next day not in hours tho. Me personally just have my fields at 100% upkeep. When you have so many seeds and so many compost bins it does not matter that much to have the low upkeep. Also I was confused by planting the 600% going to 100% as well went around looking for the one ruined field I had for about 15 minutes before realizing it was no longer ruined.

You have to question whether or not you actually enjoy filling the compost bins more often over applying a woodchipping as the first fertilizer once every 4 harvest cycles if you actually tilled the field to go down 20-25% depending on your type of Hoe. That way it cost 2 humus all the time except 1 of the cycles of the 4 cycles where it only cost 1 humus and you don't feel silly using a woodchipping every fourth fertilizer every cycle to stop the field from needing 3 humus when the lowest you can go is 50%.

Agreed its all about how you play. I have a tendency to over do things. I do not really horde anything as I have plans for it and consume most of it as fast as I produce. But if you do not use game meats for gluttony or food in general you tend to have a lot of meat just ready to go in a compost bin. I farmed a total of 48 brains 40 of which were from deer yesterday. Needless to say all 30 of my compost bins are at 100 and have no slots for producing more. But I see your point about efficiency.

Yeah been debating with myself about whether to bother with upkeep... Keeping the bins full is probably one of the easier chores, and it does make farming much more annoying to have to monitor the upkeep. Maybe once I'm not still having to pull the purity up with purchased seeds it will make more sense to skip upkeep maintenance. For now it would make it a lot harder to draw out my purity seed stash.

What shop items are being avoided here? The scarecrow? Come on I even have a scarecrow just to reduce the annoyance but I am not going to ignore the fact that having 50% upkeep is vs 100% is not a big deal when you have 25 fields and you supply them from like 15-20 compost bins...
