Insanity Gain - Altered Mechanics or just doing crazy stuff?

After my last session, I logged out by sleeping in a bed (with a teddy bear in hand) at madness level 0. After sleeping at least 8 hours, I logged in, harvested some fields, gathered turkey droppings from coops, and in the middle of re-planting fields, my madness level increased to level 1.

1. I am wondering if either the insanity loss (due to sleeping in a bed) has been capped or changed, along with the changes to inspiration in a recent update.
2. To avoid wringing the necks of turkeys, I am carrying turkey's in my backpack until they die. I know when a baby animal dies in your vicinity, insanity is gained, but does this apply to adult turkeys?
3. I am carrying some turkey droppings around with me, though it makes since that carrying feces around would increase insanity, I can't find any notes that suggest this in the update notes.

Anybody who gains a level faster than 4-5 hours is indeed doing 'something' in that time period to accelerate it. Its purposely a mystery though as to what thing you are doing so that players can experiment with it. Gaining a level every now and then shouldn't be the end of the world anymore anyway.

Maybe your teddy bear is cursed. Try making another one and never take it to Providence. Also try studying and raising a few proficiency's when you log in as I think that helps reduce insanity.
Leave the turkeys in a chest and wait until they die that way or you will be carrying turkeys around for no reason, and I think you only get insanity from turkeys when you wring their neck.
I don't think carrying around turkey poop would increase insanity but I could be wrong on that.

This query should help you nailing down what was stated by JC to affect insanity/madness

Definitely not the end of the world, and I completely get and love the experimentation aspect of the game. This is just one of those random things that has occasionally happened that I haven't been able to nail down. I just wanted to rule out mechanic alterations and other known relationships. I'll keep experimenting!

I definitely don't think its a cursed teddy, It is self made, and it still reduces madness levels after sleeping. As far as I know, a cursed teddy bear will ONLY increase madness level. I can say that I have experimented with both sleeping with and without the bear at 0 madness level, and the gain occurs shortly after waking regardless.

From my perspective it looks like it might be due to the turkeys dying in inventory or carrying turkey droppings around with me, so I'll stop doing both.

Did you sleep more than 8 hours? Your insanity points reset if you stay logged off in a bed for more than 8 hours but if this is true . But if you did actually log off with like 50+ living turkeys and you gained a madness level.

Of course, if you are at madness lvl 1 when you log off and didn't sleep +8 hours then the teddybear won't reduce the madness lvl and the reason you see the +1 shortly after is because the server takes a second to update the madness status.

Seems teddybear reduces madness level but not insanity counter. Checkout for Crab Spikes around your base and study small things every now and then to reduce possible insanity.

I am pretty sure your insanity points do not reset from sleeping in a bed. Sleeping in a bed with a teddy only reduces madness not insanity. Whittle about 30 wood blocks into sharpened sticks and then into crucifixes. Easiest way to decrease your insanity. Do this before you log out and once every 2 1/2 hours and provided you do not do anythings too insane you will never gain a level.

I have experienced apparently random madness gains from time-to-time but thinking back about them after the fact they seem justified. Some rats that agroed on me or perhaps I spent too much time in the mine without coming up to sift rubble. Nothing smoking the hookah doesn't fix.

...crafting sharpened sticks?!

Is no one using up their inspiration? I do nothing else on some chars and they never get mad.

Sharpened sticks are whittling and so is making crucifixes. So if whittling removes a little bit of insanity when you make 30 wood blocks which takes about a minute to chop up you can craft 30 sharpened sticks then 15 crucifixes. Very cheap way to just reduce insanity a bit and if you do that every couple hours you will never have a problem with it and never use up inspiration. Besides chopping down the trees to replenish your wood reserves every once in a while also gets you wooden crosses which greatly reduces the amount.
