Tending not Working?

Hello, i just made a few fields and planted Cabbage, got the upkeep to 51% with wood chips but when i tried to tend it.... nothing happened? Tending with a Farmers hoe should have got it to 20%?

Tending lowers the minimum upkeep. After tending you still need to throw on woodchips to actually reach that upkeep.

how is it possible that now is the first time you tend a field?

iirc you need plantation management to even get the "tend" option, also a hoe equipped or you wont even see it

And the field must be a "viable target", meaning, a untended field can be tended with a normal hoe, and tended-with-normal-hoe-field and untended field can be tended by a farmers hoe, i.e. tending is only visible if you can actually do something to that upkeep cap.

tending has never affected the current upkeep; you've always had to add woodchips after.

so its 51% if i now add woodchips it only goes down by 2% do i now have to spam 2% woodchips till its 20%?

No, its base 10% (or was it 20%?!) for choppings divided by uses, so you get 100%, 50%, 33%.... base/(1+number of previous uses), so you gotta spam 1%, 0.xxx% and so on...

You can either spam woodchips now, or you can wait till the next round of planting and get a better value from them. You must know by now that the more fertilizers you put in a field in one planting round, the less effective each one becomes.
