Best weapon for hunting

Postby Iracus » Tue Dec 29, 2015 7:35 pm

Hi all, so I am currently at deer for hunting and can usually kill them unless I lag or make a few mistakes. But I would like to make things a bit easy on myself so I want to create a hunting set. So what I'm wondering is what weapon I should be using. Right now I have a club as I haven't bothered with getting swords yet. But should I just get fencing real quick and then slot for sword damage? Or should I continue with club and just get blunt damage?

Or if it is mob dependent, what types of weapon/skill set should I be using for deer and bear?

Thanks for any and all help

I found polearm/Halberd and an impact set to be the easiest way when I started hunting. Getting a good set was cheaper, and cleave is a nice aoe where you dont have to be properly placed to hit the animal, giving you more room for trial and error. I still use halberd for almost every animal/monster. But you need the polearms skill to equip and cleave.

Depends kinda what you are after.

For small game hunting a halberd would be best, for big game hunting a sword would be better. A gun would be best if you go out to hunt stronger darkness animals.

Yeah, club is only marginally better if at all than simply doing unarmed attacks (stomp, roundhouse, uppercut, etc). If you -really- want to play it safe though, get a canoe and cheese deer while riding around in it  it's really hard for them to hit you and you can flee and regen easily if needed, but it's much more time efficient to just fight them on foot directly.

Sword has always been the go-to for deer though, they have a decent amount of hp and move fairly slowly so as long as you stay close they go down quickly.

Keep in mind you can 'sharpen' a sword with a wet stone- obtained from grinding rubble... you get a small dps bonus from the purity of your sword.
