Rummaging?

I don't have a rummage option on my Mermaid's Purses, am i missing a skill for that?

you might be playing with one of the custom clients, with the study protection enabled.
this option (in the general tab, i think) will remove all other flowermenus from an item that can be studied.

shift only has an impact on rightclick in the mapview, not on inventory items

Is the quality of rummaging tied to a proficiency or a skill or a clothing stat?

not that I am aware of, but it might very well be.
I've not seen it confirmed or even conjectured anywhere that I can remember, though.
