Destroying A Kiln...

Postby AcidSpiral » Tue Nov 10, 2015 5:15 am

Alright. I've hit something odd. I am trying to destroy a kiln in my mine and at first it was going down 4% at a time like it normally should... Then once I got to around 40% it is now going down 1% at a time and taking around 20 hits for each of those 1% reductions. I've tried with multiple characters and can't figure out what is going on. ._. Any ideas?

There is no soak on your claim, so you can easily destroy things on your claim. However, mines don't count as claimed, so you have to deal with soak, which increases greatly when the building has been damaged a bit. You'll have to keep powering through it and learn what it's like to raid, or you can get the Arson skill and light the kiln on fire, which will either destroy it completely, or bring it down to 1%, I forget.

Ahah. So basically make sure something is where I want it before I place it inside the mine. Thank you.

Yeah same happens for raiders, they can't destroy buildings unless they bring greek fire.
If you get raided at least your base will remain there for you to build up again.

What about allowing kilns to accept explosives... give it some very short random timer... and allow it to be destroyed... with possible consequences if you are standing in the blast radius? Give it splash damage too... would certainly encourage folks to avoid using them as defacto walls... (unintentionally of course)

That would undo the whole point of having the arson mechanic. They already can't really be used as walls due to the space required around them.

Meow I seen them used in conjunction with walls. Was tested people couldn't wiggle by them.

I can see arson with structures that can't be interacted with... like Housing or others that don't have a 'flame in them'; but anything you can...

How many structures would we be taking about~ kilns, baking ovens, smoker maybe, stove, fireplace, ore smeltor, etc... ??? (all assuming they are fueled and lit off when the explosive is placed)

And destruction by an enemy would not necessarily be the purpose...

It's a truth of life in Salem that creation is skill based while destruction is humor based. Who's to say I, the owner, placed it wrong and need to remove it and rebuild somewhere else. As it stands I'd have to grind 100's of humors to tear down a kiln in a short time... but an explosive might just do the trick in a fraction of that.

What are you talking about? For one thing, Arson IS a skill, not a Humor. For another, if you are the claim owner, there is no soak for you, so if you need to destroy your claimed kiln, you can do it with any humors at all. If you're building in a mine now, you should be careful and check everything twice, but mines are also a lot more flexible than the overworld since you're not paying for any space you take up.

I'll have to test this... a 40 humor toon that has rights on a claim can destroy just as fast as the 400 humor owner?!

That's what you are suggesting?
