Mining support

So I mined out a tile and it triggered a cave-in. I placed a support beam and crisis averted. However I really don't like the spot I had to build this support -- would it be possible for me to build another support nearby (within radius) and then destroy this support beam I had just created to prevent the cave-in ???

nope, it would cave it at the spot it tried to cave in before.

The only way to ever "remove" a pending cavein and the support beam preventing it, is to remove the support beam and let it happen, then remove the mess and mine again more careful.
The cavein adds rubble tiles roughly in the same range as a support beam, so anything outside support-beam-range around the cavein is safe.

Full of ****... as long as the area is covered by a Mine support; and the one you want to destroy is now redundant... you can destroy it anytime.

Anytime you are 'expanding' spend as little time as possible in the unprotected area... if you try to get fancy building 'branches in an unprotected area...that's where cave-ins are most likely to occur.

Perhaps I misunderstood the issue; that said its not a widespread phenomena usually (like Mine entrance that clears/destroys a 13 square area). Had one recently myself but only 2 squares were effected; but by the 3rth purity had returned to the rubble. Kinda cute really as boulders I had left in branches...were still visible 'behind' the cave-in now.

That said if you mined past it... I'd be run for the entrance side of things when you destroy it... just be safe.
