Any trick to filling barrels?

I only realized recently that I can actually dump a whole barrel into a container while I am carrying it and right click the container.

Makes me wonder are there any tricks to fill the barrel really fast too? I tried right-clicking shallow water while carrying a barrel but nothing happens. I'm lazy and would like to skip the 10-times back-n-forth with a bucket routine

You can buy that bigger bucket from the store.

Otherwise you can just bring your barrels to the well or river with a cart and fill them quickly right there.

There's been rumors of Waterwheels and plumbing for getting water in future development patches but for right now I think the only way to do it is just to spend an hour or two filling up a Water Tower or the big barrels.
