I am a returning player that does not remember an extreme amount about the game...

Is it possible to remove a ridge from an area you want to build a base? Possibly by placing dirt up against it to create a top you can dig?

And/Or digging it down, yes.

That is true now, but it used to be different, which is both a shame and a very unneeded and completely incomprehensible (at least for me) act of killing the fun.

Shaping the land is one part of making it your home.

All unneeded to say the least:
- the removal of artifice bonus effecting digging
- the added cost of biles while carrying something (the dirt boulder) over your head, making it night impossible for newer players to do any land shaping, still enough to be slightly annoying for higher players
- and the constant, not so rare, chance of getting "traces of the lost colony" which add a good bit of insanity, yep, that was really, really needed
- also, insanity in general, I for myself, used to have 3 chars logged in at once to provide the "manpower" needed for the digging I wanted

Good thing I did most of the digging I wanted already.
Bad thing, I doubt that digging is anywhere close to being important on the devs list.
At least, there could be some effect for digging artifice, at least something.

You can, just takes time. Only issues are rock formations, they hinder and a few multiple steps too close together.

Keep a fireplace going and roast the grubs you dig up. It will help keep your insanity down.

it depends on how extreme the ridge; I recommend you level the ridge before placing a claim.

For whatever reason... so can never be leveled.

Is it close a patch of stone, lime, clay ? In that case, it would be a mess !
