It's still a long way to madness 10, but even lvl 1 means you should not (and effectively can not) do many things, like anything that uses an expensive tool like mining.
Even just picking up flowers might end in you getting KOed.
Your best bet is to make a new character and be more careful with insanity/madness, study once an hour, 5-10 things, small inspirationals are better for this purpose, and you will hardly ever get a single madness lvl.
Latikais custom client has a timers-tool that you can use to help remind you when it's time to do so.
Use that 2nd char untill you got the tobacco/affluence/teddy to remove the madness from your other character.

That's right, just don't ever put a pickaxe into a characters hands that has madness!
(In case you thought of mining/chipping boulders to get some geodes...)

So if someone need something then it's his problem how much he need to pay. May it be 200s for Bear Skin or 4k for Needle it's his choice. I don't really care if i sell it for 70s to stall or for 1000s to player it's mine and his choice. But in my opinion it's better go forage for few Indian Feathers and Arrows make savage charms then afford that 100s more than make a new char. Salem isn't like any other games. It's hard, ugly and almost everyone is your enemy ^^ And if he don't learn it at start then he will be crying over all small things that will come in later game or next updates.
