What could have happen?

So I create an alt.
At one moment i missclick on activate Crime (didnt notice on the moment, but i checked my log after).
I glutton some food given by my main.
I travel through milestones.
I see 2 claims , check around.
Later i m killed by an angry cougar.
And...I realise i have crime debuff, so my character will not wake up.

How did i get the crime debuff?
I have no crime skill, no trespassing, no larceny, etc.
I didn't open any container, nor took anything.

So what could have happen?

IIRC you can in fact trespass on a claim without the skill, not sure if that got fixed already though.
You could've trespassed claim without realizing it before (scents don't appear right away) OR accidentally when running away from cougar, just speculating here.

It's true i poked the claim limits. Just to see if the upkeep was still paid. But i could not enter.

I always do that, it s the only way to know if the claim is still on or not, right?
So you tell me doing this with crime on, without trespassing is enough to get crime debuff???

Yeah I think you always leave a trespassing scent which is trackable. Claims stay active even when they run out of silver but you can destroy the claimstone if it is depleted if you manage to get to it.

The Trespassing skill is a little misnamed. You can always enter someone's claim if you turn on crimes, even with a newbie. The Trespass skill gives you the ability to look into chests and other containers. Also, claims now remain active whether they are paid or not. Unpaid just means you can destroy the stone if you can get past the defenses. So, poking around the edges is now totally useless unless you want to see if you have the owner memorized.

Ah so that's why you can trespass even without trespassing skill =P

Also it should be noted that if you activate crimes and you bump into a claim it wills top you at the edge and highlight the area if you do not have Pclaim/Vclaim turned on. When you bump into that area with crimes on it will leave a trespassing scent. Here is the good news. In a little while you will return to your claim and lose all your stuff. However trespassing does not leave a summon-able scent so you will not find yourself in the stockades anytime soon. But be warned the scent will last for 24 hours and the person can track you to your claim. If they do they may not be as nice to just leave a trespassing scent on your claim. Make sure you have some walls built and at least a couple torch posts to scare them from committing crimes against you. I would also go ahead and get ready to stock them make sure to save up at least 575 silver and place that in your bank in providence. If they steal or commit waste on your claim get the scent and go pass a judgment lock them up as many times as you can. It is possible for you to kill the person through this method if you can get hem locked up about 2 days in a row before they can respond or bail themselves out they will die from Madness.
