Help with locks and keys

I have 2 major issues with keys as of now.

1. I have a master key which opens my bases gates, a master that only opens the front gate, and another which opens my friend's gates. I also have a few slave keys. How do I attune the master key for my base to one of the slave keys?

2. Is it possible to have 2 different master keys open the same door? I attuned the wrong key to the first gate, and I am able to open the gate with both the front gate key and the entire base key, but the other gates can only be opened with the entire base key.

Thank you for any answers, I am very confused at this point and need some clearing up.

I've never had to retune any gates myself, but iirc you can retune a gate to a new key so long as you have a master of the key that opens that gate. So, you have the keys you need; make a new lock, attune it to the key that opens most of your gates and apply the lock to the front gate. Then you should be able to open it without that front gate master key.

If that does work, then you can also retune all your friend's gates the same way so long as you have his master key. Just always be careful to attune the lock to a key and that it is the correct key before you apply it to the gate.

How exactly do I make a slave copy of a specific key? If I have a few blank ones in my inventory how would I use one to copy another master?

There is no such thing as a blank key. Maybe you are confused by the fact that when you name a "Key" or "Master copy of a key" the system doesn't retain the name you've given to the key that you used to make the copies. I found this fact and the amount of copies made frustrating the first couple times I made keys. Probably because I was making key sets for three characters and for three different doors at the same time. Until you get the system down perfectly, try doing just one set of keys for one lock at a time just to keep all these confusions to a minimum.

Craft>Tools>Miscellaneous Tools>Keys & Locks>Slave Copy of Key--You need to have a "Big Key", which is a "Key" or "Master copy of key", and a bar of pig iron.

So when crafting the Slave Copy I just have to make sure that it copies the specific key? That definitely clears things up. thanks a ton
