Are these like Aphids, petrified wood, etc, and appear while you gather other things, or do they track as a pickable spawn?

I've spent over 20 hours in Autumnal regions in the past 2 weeks looking for one and still no luck,

.. I know I could just buy one from someone's stall, but I'm determined to find the original of all of my plants.

They spawn on the ground. Better change your radar settings so it's different color than orange, as it's easy to miss in autumnal biome. Giant cricket + Foraging on and you may be able to find one.

their find rate did get nerfed badly since they have become high-end inspirationals. They used to be VERY common, now they are very rare.

This. I still need to go through and do something about the food recipes that take them though.

The wiki doesn't say exactly - When you pot them, do they grow more of the same with a Chance of becoming the others, or do they always grow something else?

They can grow into bellpeppers, baby bear or perhaps a beaming proud sunflower as most if not all potables

Nope, they are only forageable. Being able to plant 8 1 charge gourds to get at least one 10 charge one out of it sounds like the sort of scam a nigerian prince might suggest.

Give me all of your gourds and I'll multiply their uses by a thousand, I promise
