Help with Hunting

Hey all,

Hopefully this is my last post for awhile asking for advice/info/help - blah blah blah... (Don't like being a pain but it sort of comes with the territory I suppose when you're new) :P

Anyway, I have been trying desperately, even had a neighbor in game demonstrate for me - but I can't seem to figure out how to hunt, even the simplest of critters (crickets/rabbits) - I aim my slingshot at them and it never hits. Is there some trick I'm missing or some camera angle I should be using? Any hints, tips advice or even links to "how to videos" or articles greatly appreciated and welcome!

Ari

It doesn't hit because you don't have the skill small game hunting and bug hunting which is learned before

In my experience you can't be too far away or too close to your target when you use the slingshot, half a screens distance is the optimal I believe. You may still miss by chance of course, and obviously some obstacles will block the shot.

Also, don't hunt anything bigger than crickets with the slingshot. It's damage is so crappy you're going to spend a ton of stones just to kill even a rabbit. It's very good for getting a mob aggroed from a distance though, which is particularly useful when hunting timber snakes.

Aim at the feet with the slingshot.

If it doesn't work out, you can always turn on wander/run to get close to your target (takes some practice), then use roundhouse kick or stomp. If you're close enough, it'll aggro it. You can also use leap at. Even a single punch single hits a cricket usually though.

place the mouse over the legs of a standing rabbit, press the number where you have the shot, prepare to do a stomp when the rabbit is coming and press it a bit before he reaches you and then finish with some punches

Why must people use the slingshot? I never understood it :p Stomp is your best friend as soon as you can hunt bugs, and after fast moves it's bullrun and roundhouse for the bigger critters. If you have a custom client with gob paths turned on you can easily learn the pattern in which animals move. Follow it till it walks towards you, prepare a stomp for it to walk into and then punch or use your best damage ability. For when you can start deers and beavers, intercept with bullrun once you get it, hit with highest damage attack twice, hide behind tree. Learn to dodge the charge for deers and to not aggro too many beavers at once as their dance triggers other nearby beavers to do the same.

Slingshot is good to agro some evil **** you don`t want to come close and stomp (like Quetzal or March Hare). And if you miss bullrun on Quetzal - you will most likely die from poison.

This was about a newbie hunting tiny things. With quetzalcoatls you need not hit them at all. And being within slingshot range seems a bit too close to me either way. Ideally you'd just sit at max range and wait for them to aggro then deal with them accordingly. Unless you want to give yourself ample room for error, i'd suggest a quick kill, which is easiest to do by letting it aggro, bullrunning it as it comes right at you and then stabbing twice. Alternatively, you may try to time a stomp for a single stab and then run, rinse and repeat. The mini-stun from a missed bullrun might get you KO'd if it changes direction, the stomp gives you more accuracy perhaps, but leaves more attempts where you can get trolled by the quetzal :p as for hares, they are initially bunnies, and as such a stomp is easier to use for aggro and gives you some breathing time to run away and set up your positioning.

If you try to stomp Rabbit that turns into March Hare - your stomp will most likely be interrupted. I usually try to deagro them (with building or river) and then initiate combat with bullrun and stabs :)
