New guy here...

Is there a way to stack common items in my pack? Like berries? Someone told me I can't but I look at player run stalls and I see common items in large stacks in the stalls. Is it only in stalls that we are allowed to stack common items?

Only certain items can be stacked, like dry goods, liquids, and seeds.

The items aren't stacking in player stalls so much as the stalls are showing you how many are available.

example would be if you see in the stalls someone has 20 Singing old Logs, it's actually 20 stacks of 10 singing old logs.

No, you're confusing stacks with uses. Some inspirationals have several uses, but there is only a single item there. Only seeds and 'volume' type items like flour and water can stack in your inventory.
