Interaction with other players around Providence

Having read a few forum bits and trawled through the wiki I've pretty much convinced myself that everyone is out to kill me. As such I never really interact with any characters around Providence.. If they're not weird naked plague carriers who will infect me then they're bad bad people who will steal anything useful I own and beat me up/kill me... Any visit I have made to Prov has been 'straight in, make no eye contact, sell/buy, get the heck outta Dodge as quick as I can'...

This isn't exactly the healthiest attitude to have for my own sanity in the real world, let alone my character's and I assume the dire warnings everywhere about the rutheless nature of the game are to make sure we're forewarned.

I'm assuming that the interaction in Providence is where you pick up better deals and trades as well as identifying other players. Is there a safe way of doing this or something within Providence that's more sociable. As it stands, without any interaction it could be a long long time in the wilderness.

The only place where you can get killed on providence claim is the dock club. It's hard to accidentally walk into it. In all other areas the worst that can be done to you is getting cursed or getting looted if you KO to an animal. Or to an admin. Or if you get taken into combat from outside the claim or in the dock club. Or you can KO from carrying objects, sitting down on the iron throne or picking thorns from a bush.
Don't come near naked coughing people to not get diseased.

Not true at all.

Also yes talking to people will more than likely get you killed. Your only real hope of getting to know people in the game is to join a village and make connections.

Thanks for that.. when I turned chat on in Prov there didn't seem to be much doing apart from one eejit swearing at everyone. As for villages I've found a couple on my wanderings. I would assume that they're not just gonna welcome me with open arms if I'm setting up nearby.

Is there a way of trading with the villages in order to show my commitment or do I have to either know someone already there or bump into them in the wilds ?

This has not been my experience. I have traded with a few people and have made a couple friends that way I am also fairly certain that if I met them outside of providence the initial thought would not be to kill me. I don't think it is as scary as you make it seem Dallane.

The moment you trust someone in this game is the momemt they will ***** you. There are of course many factors to consider. You aren't a known person, the people you traded with are more then likely the same but i can almost guarantee if you let them in your town at some point you will lose it.
