I'm currently in my first mine and I placed a mine support thing when I got down there. Just now it started to cave in and I had to put another beam down. Was there a specific spot I needed to put the first support or do I just need more supports as I go. Thanks for the help!

Might be back luck. I've had cave in happen in full coverage. You shouldn't need to immediately place a support. You can also get away with never using a support if you mine in straight lines.
