How do you make a clay pot?

I got the actual unburnt pot assembled. I have a nice fireplace going and I can right click on the fire to open the small 4 panel window. I've put the unburnt pot in it but nothing happens. Am I missing something?

Also, a few days ago I made some milkweed fibers and can't remember how I did it. I've also put those in the 4 panel window but nothing happens with them either.

You have to put pot there and wait. Fireplace must reach full heat (that's the red bar when you open the fireplace) - then ashes will be visible on the ground under fireplace. Only once the heat is full and there are ashes visible things will start cooking / burning (applies both to items placed in the fireplace, as well as in items put in the pot over the fire)
