Timber piles better off on pavement ?

I read the wiki about the six tile rule for any objects near them causing more chances of infection, but it did not mention whether a paved surface is better or not. Does it make a difference?

No. Some people like it for aesthetics, though.

It can also be useful to tell you where to place them. No accidental 1 tile offsets from not having the location marked if you're placing them in a carefully planned grid.

No. Some people like it for aesthetics, though.
not for aesthetics but to remember how far each pile has to be from another so they dont have to count each time

I like to put them at the corners of my fields, makes a nice grid of it's own. Sure, the piles are a bit further apart than they need to be, but no wasted space.
