How to increase armed and unarmed combat?

Last night my character made a sling. He gathered up some stones and went rabbit hunting. Seeing a rabbit, not too far from his hovel, he readied his sling an let loose a couple stones. One hit, doing very little damage, the other two miss. The rabbit goes nuts and attacks my character. Using unarmed melee skills, against this beast from hell, did little to stop it...forcing the character to run. And run he did! My character ran for what seemed to be miles with the rabbit in hot pursuit. Finally, spotting some snakes, near a pond, my character runs over to them in the hopes the snakes will attack the rabbit. That worked out...the snakes killed the rabbit. But then it was their turn and they chased my character for miles! Nothing he could do were enough for these snakes wanted newbie blood. My character was poisoned and knockout alongside a lone red maple tree. I will not even go into detail his failed hunting expedition with a turkey ;)

How can I increase his combat damage with weapons and unarmed combat. Do I need to raise the humors? Or some combo? He has a sling and the unarmed combat skill.

Damage depends on which attack you use, your gear, and in most cases also on your current or max yellow bile.

In the case of punch it's current yellow bile. Increase it and you will do more damage
