Status of Salem

My friend and I played from 2012-2013 for some time. We quit because there were about 50 people on the server, and there was a skill gap between newbs and vets due to no phlegm level caps. Now it seems the servers have been wiped, and the server status shows 1500 people on per day. What is this game like now?

In the old days a person with 500 biles could wipe your stone wall in a matter of seconds. That's not the case anymore, If you build a whole bunch of braziers and torchposts around your base it will take a very organized faction to take it down, and it will take them hours to destroy a wall.

Also, buildings can't be destroyed as easly anymore, only if you have a personal claim covering them.

To grief your buildings the griefer needs Greek Fire, which will burn your house for days, if you log in and realize that is happening you have to throw a bucket of water to turn it down

Also The murder skill is almost unreachable unless a memento mori is bought to learn it. Pay2Grief.

That is to protect players from other bad people, if you are playing in popham, a cannon will wreck your entire base with one shot.

That is the status about griefing, the game has a lot to offer and a lot to explore ;)

We've made tons of changes to combat, raiding, food/gluttony, and skills. The gap you speak of is now less pronounced as there is a limit to how much increased Phlegm affects wall bashing and there are new mechanics that make it easier for weaker players to get revenge on older ones. There are also soft limits to how quickly you can 'level up' a character requiring you either wait some time, or put in a lot of extra work.

We've added so many new skills, industries, structures, inspirationals, and foods, I can't even make a short list here. But you might be interested to know we have a whole new purity grind with easy early rewards, but much more difficulty as you approach 100%.

Also, Providence is the permanent main server, and Popham is the new 'Expedition' server which is much more dangerous, smaller, and crowded. If you want to be daring and try it, though, you can get animals to send home to Providence for the new Animal Husbandry mechanic. You've come at a good time, Popham just started and is projected to run about 3-4 months before ending (it's a temp server, you can read more about it in Announcements). Otherwise, you'll have to wait for the animals until people from Popham start selling them after that server ends.

There's a good list of most of the the recent patch notes here: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=13240
The rest are in the Announcements section.

Sounds cool, but how is the population? Is 1500 per day really accurate?

Thanks for the replies. If you don't mind, when was the huge population rise? Part of the reason we left was because at some times our town would make up 1/4 of the active population, but 1500 is impressive.

The population has been on the rise for the last year or so. We were around 800-900 daily just before we officially launched a week ago. It's been 1500 since then and holding steady, and I think rising a bit, John's keeping better track than I.
