So... is there any optimal way for a hermit to smelt wrought? Maybe some method involving alts? 1? 2?

If you are playing solo then using a alt is your best bet. You might be able to work out a deal with a trader tho.

As for alts -

I guess my main char is dealing with forge, and alt/alts are usig trip hammer. Correct? And alts needs to have proper skills in order to use hammer?

Just have your main char work the trip hammer and your alt char refill the coal.
If you only have 1 char to work the triphammer, make sure you dont fill all the slots with bars right away.
just put 1 bar in and wait till its about 33% before you put the next bar in, that way you can have your main char keep on working the triphammer with almost no downtime. ( no downtime = less coal used)

Also the % will only go up once the heat is near 100.
