How to raise blood as a newb?

Postby kitty629 » Wed Jun 24, 2015 12:20 am

There are no huckleberries around where I have settled, is there a easy recipe to raise blood? It is already 10 points behind my highest humour.

Crickets, Boiled Toadstools, Salted Nuts (made from chestnuts), Berries on a straw (made from cranberries) and Frogetti (made from caterpillars) are some of the basic ones

Here is a list of all foods that give to blood

Aren't Cranberries blood food ? huckleberries are yellow food. Basically Cranberry recipes would help, or any meat recipe with Snake or Bear. Shrooms you need toadstools and grubs are caterpillars. Fish is tiger trout and seabass and shellfish is crawdad. Look here for variable values: http://www.thesalemwiki.com/wiki/index. ... iable_Food

all the above advice is excellent, but I'd like to add that you can make generic versions of some foods to help you balance your humors over a few gluttony sessions. This works because if you fill gluttony bars of 2 or more humors, you will get the point in the LOWEST humor.

For example:
* (Berries Food Group)Mix berries (it only takes one different berry) to make generic berries on a straw that give 10-11 to each humor.
* (Mushrooms Food Group) 'Shrooms on a stick can be made with mixed shrooms to provide a generic food that gives 8-13 to each humor.
* (Fish Food Group) Seaweed Rolls can be made with 2 different filets to get generic food that gives 13-15 in each humor.
* (Nuts Food Group) Salty Nuts when made with different nuts give 13-15 to each humor
* (Meat Food Group) LumberJack Frikadels can be made generic and give 10-15 to each humor.
* (Veggies & Greens Food Group) Wild Salad is already a generic food, providing 12-14 to each humor

Create a gluttony session with at least a few of each of these foods and watch your humors find balance again after just a couple sessions, or sooner. :)

As far as I recall, the slugs and bugs group only has one recipe that can be made gneric - Crikabob but that requires Intermediate Cooking and Onions. Not exactly a noob recipe. Shellfish food group does not have any recipes that can be made generic.

Once you start making generic recipes you will have to get accustomed to observing which items are selected to be combined in the recipe. Picking up and placing items then re-selecting the recipe from the menu resets items that will be consumed by the recipe. Try it a few times and you will understand what you have to do to combine the right ingredients to make generic recipes.

Where do I find cranberries? I wont be killing any snakes or bears any time soon, I am just trying to make some level land to claim. Grubs so far have raised my yellow way beyond my blood. I dont see any salt or seaweed nearby as well, perhaps I have picked a bad spot?

Cranberries can be found in Marshland and Shrub biomes.

Salt and seaweed can be found mostly around sandy beaches/waterways and in swamp areas. Additionally, salt can be found anywhere and typically around around lime and clay deposits (that's been my experience) Both of those items can be challenging to find, but once you find the right areas you will get enough to at least help you re-balance your humors over a couple good gluttony sessions.

Open Myrtle Oak bushes for caterpillars, or keep an eye out for them on the ground in most biomes.

Also, if you want to take a chance with snakes, you can stomp them from the safety of shallow water. Snakes do not enter shallow water, so if you manage to aggro them by running near them (intentionally or not) you can lure them to shallow water and use STOMP to kill them without the risk of being poisoned by their bite. Once you try it, you will realize that there are many opportunities to engage in this sort of combat with snakes simply by running around them until they engage combat. I would not try to aggro them with a combat move, since you may find yourself unable to move away quickly enough to avoid their poison bite! Just let them aggro you by you being a nuisance to them :)

Salt can also be found in abundance through the mountainous areas.

Oh yeah, good point. I forgot I have been on Popham all weekend - I haven't found the mountains there and there is no Coast (as far as I know), so I forgot to mention that you can scour the beaches of the Providence claim for both seaweed and salt. Just be careful not to leave the Providence claim or you risk being engaged in combat with other players.
