I will eventually want to claim my own land but I am not happy where I started out. My question is how do I find a more suitable spot is there a way to take a ship like I did when i finished the tutorial or just keep walking? Also how do I claim land?

To find a new spot you start by walking. Then you walk more.

To stake claim you must buy a writ of homesteading in town for 150s then build a personal claim. The rest you can play around with.

You find a better spot just by walking around until you find a place you like.

You claim land by buying a "Writ of Homesteading" in town and learning the skill Settling. Settling will allow you to build a structure that includes the writ as one of the ingredients. Build it on the spot you want to claim and you will get a 3x3 area to start. You can use silver to expand that.
