got the the quest where i was told to build the drying sticks. logged out, got lunch. came back and don't have character. i was under the impression that i could not be killed there. what am i missing?

The fact you must complete it in a single sitting or lose the character.

Start again, complete it, keep the character.

It wont take you long to do ^.^

You have to complete the tutorial before you log out or your character gets deleted. Just go again, it won't take you long.

do they plan to fix this? i know some players might like to rush through tutorials but i was heavily invested in gathering things when this happened. don't get me wrong i am here because of the permadeath but its not cool to die to bad design.

You didnt die, you were never alive. It was a tutorial.

Just get through the tutorial do not worry about collecting things in the tutorial it will not provide you a boost or anything. This game is not like others where you can move further by spending more time in the starter zone. Just get out of there and start your adventure bud. Oh and welcome to Salem.

It's not a bug you perma-die. That's the way it's designed. Complete the tutorial and get your first leanto, if you don't have a leanto because someone destroys it you can't log out and your character persists in the world. A leanto takes 10 wood blocks and 2 hay to build.

I was under the impression that they did it with a purpose, if you bail out on something so easy, this game is not really for you....

Atleast some justification like that, I can remember.
