About a week ago my claim was raided

I was informed that I settled too close to Salem and was told to move further west. At that time I was curious about crime mechanics and acquired 2 skills, Trespassing and Larceny.
I used larceny and discovered that I didn't receive a Crime! debuff so I assumed that no scent was left behind.

On my trek west which lasted about 3 hours, I used this on leanto's that had no claim around them. A total of about 7 leanto's were checked on my trek in the new world

Regardless, I arrived at my destination and began construction. I've surrounded my claimstone with 2 seperate walls, innermost being a brick wall which I completed last night and will be starting on a third one soon. I locked all the doors and logged out at my claimstone. Woke up this morning and was in shackles. This had already happened about once about 3 days ago so I had prepared with 2k gold on an alt. I had two doors opened so I had assumed that I left them open and this was how they arrived at my homesteaded claimstone to summon me. Since then I have insured that my doors were all closed so that no one could access my location without breaking them down....or so I thought. This last time, no doors were opened, nothing was destroyed to gain entry and none of my braziers or torchposts were activated(assuming I can check by looking at current ammo).

Since the first break in, I changed the locks on my inner wall but clearly that hasn't stopped them from gaining access.

I guess my question, after this wall of text, is how does one put another character in shackles, as this information isn't covered anywhere, as far as I can tell. If you deem me a dirty criminal and decide not to provide input, you're welcome not to, but any input I can receive on this matter would be greatly appreciated. As I've only been playing for about a month(got into the beta a couple years back and stopped playing after a few weeks) my biles are fairly low, I will only survive about 2 more trips to the shackles before I keel over, black bile is now at 48. So I guess if anything I somewhat deserve what's coming to me if this keeps up.

The stocks is something that any player can summon you to for the duration in which your crime lasts. All crimes have different times but for most crimes this is up to 2 weeks. To do this a player must simply pay the 500 silver fee to the judge in town to get a guilty verdict on the evidence and then they can put you in the stocks. Summoning you at your claim is done only for the purpose of killing you or cutting off your hand. If you still have your hand and your life there is no guarantee they went to your claim at all nor needed access to your leanto.

You mean the stocks? You must have crime scents, pay 500 silver to the judge which will turn the scents into GUILTY, then you just have to right click the stocks to put the criminal in, if someone has scents of your lacerny you're lucky they haven't killed you yet.
They also don't need access to you leanto to summon kill you, only a trial by combat must be built in an area near your leanto i think it's 1,000 tiles around your leanto but i'm just throwing numbers around.

About the leantos checked, as long as you do not steal from them you can check them without leaving a scent. But if you take something, you leave some. Those scents are larceny, and they can be used to the Judge to put you in the stockades.
You are not being "summoned", summoned would mean that either you lost your homestead and someone used a scent to summon you anywhere (but your character would be dead), or that they entered your base and summoned you in it (and you would most likely be dead too as people tend to not summon people just for nothing).

So basically you spend equivalent to ~20,000 silver in claim defenses only for someone to spend 500 silver to put you in the stocks for ~2weeks from anywhere in the game? And if you're new to the game, 2 weeks in the stocks and getting whipped for that duration is surely going to kill you.
I don't particularly understand the logic behind behind being able to place someone in the stocks regardless of where they are located in the game. I could understand running into them at providence and being able to place them in the stocks, given evidence, at that time, but the way it is now is somewhat absurd. In my opinion of course.

Does evidence expire when the scents expire, or can they just keep sending you to the stocks until they run out of evidence and silver??

A player with no leanto can now be summon killed even when they are online.

And if a claim is homesteaded?

Each stocking only lasts 24 hours. The balance will make more sense to you once you understand it.

Claimstone and Leanto work the same when talking about summoning (I'm pretty sure).
As for the 2 weeks time that JC mentionned it's how long the scent stays in game. If you commit an assault (attacking someone but you can't be summonned or put to the stocks for that, only tracked down to your homestead) it will only last a day or two. If you commit Forgery (Mixing up Silver with another metal to create fake coins) the scent will last for months. Each crime leaves a scent that stays in the world for a set period of time depending on the nature of the crime basically.

The governmental troops followed the order of a corrupted judge in Providence to your house and drugged you, put you in the stock or so I've heard. They are assholes I'mma tell you that.
Regardless, you can use the time off the stock to regain your lost bile asap.
