On defense

So i was thinking about defense, i read a couple of threads, but some seems old.
How should i plan my defense?

I was going to build a stone wall, plank wall, brickwall. With the stone wall outmost. Then braziers, with 1 tile between em, and also a couple of torchposts.
Should that be enough, how safe am i?

I also read something about tree walls, is that a viable strategy this days?

Sincerly

Vincent

Tree walls are no more. They are forbidden now.
Your plan is solid, however people have been suggesting to wall off your braziers, preferably 2 braziers per block, with gate and lock to protect them from being put off by water bucket.

Ahh, that's true! Forgot about braziers being put out with water. Good idé!

I'm unsure about the ratio braziers/torchpots personally I use 1/1 but I heard some people walling off 2 braziers and 1 torchpost in cells all along their walls.

Btw, i tried to build another wall close to my braziers. But it won't let me. Does it have to be one tile between brazier and walls?

why? if people already break ur brickwall to get close to ur braziers to turn them off ur ****ed anyway, so if u put enugh place between braziers to have a door wich means 4 spots between each brazier (2 cornerpost and a 2tile doorspot) they get to unworthy, better make a brazier every 2 spots and also a torchpost behind them, never underestimate torchposts because of there range.

Stonewall|-----------------------|
plankwall|-----------------------|
brickwall|-----------------------|
free spot to repair brickwall|-----------------------|
brazier|-----------------------|
torchpost|-----------------------|

Walled off braziers are far better than ones without their own wall, think about it, a raider spent a day hacking at your brick wall defended by a bunch of braziers, and then when he gets in, he has to invest more time to destroy the wall of every single brazier and get every single brazier to 50% so he could l3wt you freely, when if you didnt have walls for your brazier, the raider could water the brazier, bash it down, get the next and so on, much much quicker than having to break a wall for every single brazier and not being able to douse it while doing so.

but braziers are already to low on damage (8dmg), lowering it again by placing walls between them and thus less braziers makes them unworthy and someone who already breaks brickwalls might not care about 3-4 braziers when looting.

A good base doesn't have only 3-4 braziers.

I have to disagree here as it depends on your layout. Your method works perfectly to defend a small claimed area, like a vault or something of the kind, where your walled off braziers would have range enough to cover all the inside. However for a big town outer wall where the braziers only defend the outer wall then what's the point to wall them off? If they're in they're in and they can find a safe spot somewhere inside the town to regen or even outside. I also feel like that if someone wants to destroy you (not rob you) then if they're in it's over anyway unless they're stupid and KO inside. But if it's a large faction and you are on your own or with only a few friends then good luck with that.
