Settling skill was too hard to get because of Perennial Phil

It was practically impossible to get this basic skill for me without having to spend silver ona pilgrims bible.
I think thats wrong because its a basic skill and the bonuses from captivating fire are too low. When learning settling you are getting severely punished the more you learn, so if you wait with perennial philosophy (as most people would because its at the bottom of the requirement list) then you will be ***** and not even 5 inspirational items will be enough to get the 150 pts u need. And 150 is nothing.. So either fix the proficiency bonus and make it higher or decrease the requirements for settling somehow. Or decrease decay when learning abilities. I dont know..But it felt bad.

Yeah, I bought 1000 silver. But that's beside the point. In my opinion, people should not be so strongly encouraged to use silver untill they get to the more advanced parts of the game. Settling is a basic skill and shouldn't be so hard to get. Perhaps remove the requirement for Perennial Philosophy entirely from settling.

When you'll unlock more skills you'll be able to craft/get more inspirationals:
http://salemwiki.info/index.php/The_Wicked_Wicker_Man
http://salemwiki.info/index.php/Savage_Charm
http://salemwiki.info/index.php/Inspirationals (sortable table)

Perennial Philosophy is supposed to be one of the hardest profis to get cause it surely will be needed in witchcraft.

edit: Oh and after using Perenial inspirational use different inspirational that you didn't use yet to reset 'Learning Ability'.

Hi.

Yeah, I've been looking at: http://salemwiki.info/index.php/Perennial_Philosophy

As you can see for yourself, there are no easily available items to craft for Perennial Philosophy. Yet it's neccesary to get settling. Usually new players will not have something like the savage charm (indian tracking) or wicked wicker man (agriculture) when they are training to get Settling. I had to make more than 5 captivating flames and I still didn't have enough points because of diminishing returns. .. The other items are unavailable to me. The tanning skill for brains comes after settling and it requires some pretty advanced skills. The only solid alternative would have been to get a singing old log, but I hadn't found a single one in my entire playthrough. So the only thing I could have done in my situation is either a) buy a pilgrim's bible and waste real life money so early in the game (which isnt good I think) b) wasted all the training I had done and reset the skills, then started with learning the 150 pts of Perennial Philsophy that I needed by studying like 5 captivating flames (that would now be enough because diminishing returns wouldnt affect that in the beginning) and then boosting all the other proficiencies afterwards. ... The problem with the 2nd one is that I would have wasted time doing it twice and it would have upset me. .. I don't see any reason why it should upset me or anyone else who plays the game and comes into the same situation. ... We want to keep people playing the game. not ragequit because they have to reset their skills or spend real life money to get such a basic skill.

Well, thats my opinion anyway. Its up to the devs.

Edit: Wait what? ... I cant reset the learning ability when I have like 8 different skills flashing green and I just need perennial philosophy to get enough to buy settling skill. ... in that situation all inspirationals give diminished returns.

To find old logs turn on wander or foraging. (wander offers higher speed but less foragables visibility than foraging)

As for 'reseting Learning Ability(LA)' I don't mean 'reset' button.
Study like this and observe LA:
2x captivating flame (LA will say 70% then 50%)
1x wood chopping (LA will be at 70%)
1x captivating flame (you'll get 70% of that inspirational study)
1x nut (LA will go up to 70%)
1x capt. flame
1x something else you didn't use yet
etc.
Do that till you get settling.

What chiprel said, but do like 2 captivating flames in a row instead of just one at 70%. Its a bit more efficient that way. Or use Cross-Shaped Wood Splinters. I dont think I used any captivating flames myself. PP skills are supposed to be hard to get. Settling is no exception XD
