Is there currently a mechanic to stop people from walling off your gated entrances? I'd rather not get walled into my own claim.

Try Criminal Acts, Destroy Action, Story of Cain and Abel.

So, You are not allowed to build on a claimed area, even if you have criminal acts turned on?

You can, but it will leave scents and cost BB, most people don't want to lose a character over a stupid troll.
