as far as I know, m&m purpose is to get lower hardness on gems you sift, less chance to get a cave in while mining and better chance to get higher purity on ore.

The last one depends on +mining on gear. M&M increases your chance to get bigger boulders when quarrying lime, and a chance to get granite when quarrying stone (skill required)

it also makes caveins less frequent, raises the yield of smelters, increases the purity of ore mined, etc.

so yeah, it's worth raining it!

raises the yield of smelters? And apart from that you are repeating what Flink has said.

I believe M&Ms don't increase purity of ore. I'm very sorry.
The "increase yield of smelters" is funny. And untrue. Well, maybe by 0.1% for 10 LVLs in m&m
Please use the wiki btw. Because you can get trolled on forums very easily.

it should increase the chance of getting boulders with purer ore. (though i'm not certain if it's clothing)
also, you should get more bars per process, with higher m&m (maybe again it's the clothing)

The smelting process is still a mystery at this point and nobody has been able to pinpoint what exactly effects the rate you get bars. It could be M&M has a strong factor on it. It could be that it has no effect what so ever.

My understanding of ore purity is that the process is strictly based on level of mine and distance from the entrance, so the highest purity will be in the four corners of any given level. There is no other factor on it. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong here. I'm not a miner in Salem.

If you're not sure of the answer yourself, try not to state your information as fact. I realize this is a complex game and learning the real facts and mechanics can be daunting, but Help! isn't the place to intentionally spread misinformation. It can get you banned from the forums. It really is best to check information on the player-ran Salem Wiki first (www.salem-wiki.com), though after big patches such as February's, information can be very outdated or flat out wrong.

That's not true, those who know just didn't say it on the forums yet.
I can tell you that it matters what exactly you put in the smelter.
