Cementation - The art of making blister steel...

Hopefully, this thread will soon provide what the title suggests! :D

Everything seems to be straight forward, and JC confirmed there is no "luck" involved.
It is apparently possible to receive dross instead of blister steel, which is possibly related to:
- additional time the finished coffins stay in the (still lit) furnance (?)
- additional time passed after the finished (and taken out of the furnance) coffins cooled (?)

Please help gather any and all useful information regarding the process of making blister steel in this thread, and I will try to compile it into this first post, so everyone can see it more easily.

1)...how long does the furnance need to go, to produce blister steel?
- probably 7+ days

2)...how much fuel (coal?!) is needed for that?
- no coal needed, use branches!
- re-fuel once every day to stay on the safe side, seems to be burning for ~2+ days with 100% fuel

3)...the blister coffin is listed under tools, does that mean it is re-usable?
- probably not, no real info on that one yet

4)...is the coffin ready to go as it is, or are there more things to do?
- nothing can be done with the unburned coffin, as far as I can tell

5)...after the coffin is "well done" in the furnance, what else is to do?
(It states on the coffin it becomes usable after heating in the furnance, so I assume there is more to it.)
Nothing! Just take it out of the furnance after reaching 100%, wait for 1-2 days and you can loot the bars off the coffin.

the coffin takes about a week or so

these were made 3 days ago i think

I'll let you know what happens with it.

Thanks!

How much of the % fuel does the furnance use per day?
Can you re-fuel or do you need to plan in advance?
And did you need to do anything to the coffin before using it?

10% per day or so, you can refuel it

blister coffins are as they were made, nothing done to it

It uses very little fuel i can't say exactly how much
as we only have a few and don't keep tabs on them maybe 3 coal a day if you wana keep it at 100.

Yes you can re-fuel whenever you want of course make sure it actually needs coal.

No all you need to do is make the coffin and pop it into one of the empty slots and wait about a week.

Thanks for all that info, now the last question is, what to do when it is done...?!
I strongly assume there is a catch, and that catch is not the 2 lard and 8 leather.

According to the real world procedure, it would need to cool down for several days before you can take it out...

I honestly doubt the coffins turn into the steel bars, instead i think they will turn into something like molds for the bars instead.

To use a mold, you would want to melt the metal, blister steel is not actually melted at any point. :p
You could melt it after turning it into blister steel, but then it would be crucible steel for instance.

cementation was the first way to make steel, really really crude steel, which is basically puting iron bars in rich carbon environement with constant heat over time.

So for the game, id say when its done u may get between 0-4 steel, depending on rng?

It should be, technically, 4+ bars of blister steel per coffin, as the mass of the resulting blister steel would be greater than the input iron... but hey, realism = double standards in salem! :D
