The sad part is I know whatever is locked in this thing is worth less that the chest itself. I wish there was a lock picking function soley for this situation.

My question is, what Phlegm do I need to damage one of these things? If I lug it back to my p-claim wil lt be easier to break?

I'm not sure how much you actually need, but I've heard of people with 'low' biles very slowly breaking them. It may just take many many ticks to see the first even 1% dmg and is still slow on a high bile character. Yes taking it back to your p claim (or just dropping a new one over it) helps.

They used to be, but it changed. Now they can be lifted even with stuff in them but are very very very slow to destroy.

It was full of dry boards... so sad.

If ur like 200biles and trespassing the guys property , forget it you'll pass out before you even break it, however , even though you didnt get lucky with this one it dosnt mean u wont next time. i found a lot of wss etc in peoples metal chests, they can contain from 12 to 25 items in it, depending on how old they are. Make sure the chest isnt too close to a structure though as when u"ll destroy it items can randomly drop far away on the ground sometimes and u wont be able to grab some stuff, and its very frustrating.

or drag it with you out of the claim and destroy it outside

I remember Mikus having hard time destroying a metal chest even after dragging it to his own plot, and his biles were fairly high.

its real hard, i opened both old and new metal chest i dont think difficulty was any different
