Is this game still in Beta?

Was it ever fully added where you could become a witch?

Are their any monster type creatures in the game? I remember hearing back in 2011 that Salem would have like a HP Lovecraft type thing in the game..

1. You could call it alpha. There are new features being added, while some old mechanisms are reworked

2. No, there is no witchcraft yet

3. There are some monsters in the darkness - march hares and argopelters. More monsters on their way

What happened was that Mortal Moments Inc. bought this game from Seatribe and we've been making extensive changes and expansions to the various systems. Seatribe had been saying the game was in a beta stage, but it truly in is an alpha state considering how many new mechanics and game items we are adding every month.

Witchcraft never got added to the game before we got our hands on it, but we do intend to add it a few months down the road. There are just so many other things that seriously need rebalancing and improvements first before adding an entirely new system.

Thank you for the update.. Just getting into the game and was wondering what state it was in.. Sounds and looks like things are progressing nicely..

I think Alpha is a bit unfair, but perhaps. Regardless, we don't plan on having any meaningful distinction or jump between the stage we are in now and when we 'release'. Release is pretty firmly positioned in the 2015 category.

It depends on what you mean by alpha, by some definitions, mechanically incomplete, it definitely is.

And so is World of Warcraft, evidenced by their upcoming release of player housing or villages (can't keep up to be honest). An MMO will also be mechanically incomplete so long as there is a mechanic the development team wishes to implement. You could argue in this case that Witches are fundamental to Salem, which I would agree. But then I could change the name to 'Frontiers of the New World', and we might be back to being 'complete' again.

Point being, Salem will never be mechanically complete, even at launch as there will always be some system I long for that isn't quite in yet. So instead of calling it alpha on criteria that will never be satisfied I would prefer to use the more logical approach that we are in pre-launch phase. I'll leave the preferred 'pre-launch' definition to you.

I agree with this.. I have been playing PC games since the early 1980's

Game design has changed.. It use to bother me but I have started getting use to and understand the concept of "Phases" Especially for smaller game design shops that have only a few people or even one.. I for one will keep watching and following games like Salem as long as I see the developers active and involved and adding to and improving the game.. I love that now actually
