Fencing for Beginners

Time has come where I have fenced my claim. Not because I particularly like this part of the game, and I might even quit, in case someone really messes with my farm. But I was given a friendly reminder in-game. Some random nice guy passed by, tried to kill me, and when I moved inside my claim, he said it would have been fun, but hey, perhaps some other time. Plus he was mainly around to steal some stuff, so another friendly advice would be to put up a fence. Hence:

1) I have made a makeshift fence, plus four gates. MUST I close the gates every time I log off? It's really annoying if so.
2) Will my new Brazier start defending my claim immediately if someone destroys my fence and move in to steal. From what I read in this forum, I'm still unsure. Some people talk about the necessity of three (3) layer of fences. Geez.

Thanks in advance.

You can buy some springs on the store so you don't have to.

Your brazier should fire on players who attempt to commit waste on your claim.

You can purchase springs from RL store to avoid problem one. For number two I think they trigger from one crime now.

Keep in mind:
A wall will not protect you if the gates are not locked.
Splash damage can be used to destroy walls if they are at the edges of your claim. (Search trough the forum for details.)

Also, make stone walls. Makeshift fences can be destroyed in a single punch.

1.You need to put locks on the gates otherwise anyone can open them and trespass on your claim
2. Have your claim at least 1 hex further than the wall
3. Your character is more valuable than any base you can easily rebuild it one you develop him a bit so dont die and you can play casualy as much as you want

eventually, try to get into the habit of immediately closing any gate you pass through. Once you do it automatically, it hardly slows you down anymore - and you won't be able to forget to close it when you log out.

Parents everywhere:
Close the damn door!

Valuable lesson for those who play Salem.

This.
It never ceases to amaze me the people who claim they are too busy to close gates. Just check Darwoth's posts to understand why it is an imperative.

People should always close their gates, every single one. Doesn't stop it from being a chore though :P We've left "Salem, the walking simulator" behind, what of "Salem, the door closing simulator" ? xD

Edit: Then again, springs :) so nvm me xD
