Need help using clay pot

Hello. im new to the game and the forums. I just made a clay pot and trying to boil some bark..i was able to put water in the clay pot by right clickin on it with the bucket of water.but how the heck do i get the bark in there..and when i do..do i stick it back inside the fireplace to get it to boil. or do i need some kind of hanging rig over my fireplace that i cant build yet.

once pot is filled with water left click pot to pick up from inventory and right click on the fireplace and it should appear as 3 sticks and your pot, once this is done right click the pot and select open and place your bark in there.
