Was it not the case that Gastronomy bonuses used to affect butchering speed before? If so, is it intended that Culinary bonuses no longer do that?

It was indeed not the case. And it is not intended that they do now, although, we do acknowledge that baking table recipes, and fire recipes are probably not good enough for this artifice. However, our solution at hte moment is to nerf the speed in which you cook things to make culinary stacking more effective.

Butcher speed is adjusted through the use of skinning knives. The issue is, you guys don't have access to skinning knives yet as they are very much a store product.

I need to stop cooking at 3AM then :p not good for my perception of time and butchering speed it seems. Well then, looking forward to a solution for the very slow process of actually obtaining the meat you cook. As for what culinary does affect, it is a bit lacking, i think. You'd basically need to autocook a shed full of stuff to get a noticeable bonus. The legwork to get the materials it takes and the butchering takes up most of the time going into cooking.

Have you actually considered civilian artifacts giving other bonuses than just speed? You could have culinary generating extra charges on food, or even bonuses to purity, gluttony or heal values. Or reduced F&F timers. Or reduced food categories debuffs.

Several good ideas here. But yes we are trying to be careful how much freedom we give the artifices as we have many other new systems we havn't implemented yet and want to leave some creative space for them to grow into.
