Just a smidgen OT, but can anyone tell me why the red autumn forest texture is green on the mini-map, and the green texture is red on the mini-map? It disorients me :D

Nope. Despite playing Salem for nearly 18 months now, I've still not heard the reason.

An unofficial biome I tend to enjoy, which I get that it's probably an artifact and rare, but I have come across a grassland type area that had lots of small patches of woodland, which contained the foragables from both biomes. I was grabbing new world gourds and grass right next to each other.

Living between biomes is the best choice, IMO. I used to live between an autumnal forest and grassland, I could find everything I needed very easily. But since there's a grassland biome near boston, it would probably be best to settle between an autumnal forest and a coniferous forest or badlands.

The only problem with using the server town for grassland / sand / water resources is the competition. Lots of people are also roaming around trying to find things and preventing the chunks from reloading and re-spawning.

For instance, I'm trying to hoard salt at the moment. Last night around 8 I walked the beaches of Jamestown from one end of the claim to the other and came home with 3 salt. This morning at 5:30 I did the same thing and came home with 14, plus 3 beaver brains.

Just be mindful of these things :D

Also, if you've just got a small pocket of one of the biomes, settle a good two mini-maps away from it rather than directly in it or on the border. This will help the area unload while you're working at your settlement so it's resources can respawn for you. I've seen a lot of settlements smack-dab in the middle of a tiny pocket of autumnal forest. This is just a waste.
