I voted autumnal. But I'm near a good location with beach, automnal, badlands and coniferous. For milkroot weeds and blewit I port to boston. For mapple leaves I don't know, I never found that biome yet... But I managed without so far.

But I think there is no "best biome", you need to play and discover the + and - of each of them. But for fresh starters, automnal with lot of food/good forageables/stumps is nice I think

yeah XD quote it!

when some1 decide to raid my settlement in autumnal forest (wich is very aestetical pleasing and safe for freshly made chars) i'll move in a island (i i found 1), or up in a mountain or better :D in badlands!

they are for well raised players for many reasons:

pro:
- granites everywhere
- isn't common some1 will pass in those biomes... maybe more uncommond than darkness?
- now you coul make mines and wells for water and ores... somewhere there are lime quarries too for ease and fun ^^
- ton of snakes to make lard (yes lard! SHREDS COOKING) and etterfangs just for your own defence against those venoumus worms

con:
- very very very light color... some1 could not like that
- a TON of snakes D: if you go out without any serum it's risky like cross swimming a large river
- only birchs everywhere... not so much to say "hey let's make charcoal!" better wait until you get forestry to start your own tree production

and well.. if i found an isle i'll settle in ^^ for defence and beauty of land :P
i'm the one who run :|

Im a bit confused over the categories. So woodland is something separate from the different type of forests? Woodland can be used to describe all type of forests, cant it?

On topic: There is no best. The best thing is to have a mix of 3-4 biomes close to your place. Base should be placed a bit away from water on the biome which gives less foregables. (Base messes up respawn I have heard.)

As long as it has plenty of autumn grass for spamming hay for fields, it's all good.

Oak Savannah and the Badlands I find are the best biomes for this.

There is no single best biome. It is better to live on the edge of 2-3 biomes - that way you'll have larger resource variation. Best is some forest-like biome and some plain-like together.

I have moved to new places quite a bit. To any new players reading this I highly suggest any kind of forest simply for Waxing Toadstools so you can easily recover your humors with quick foraging. Also it is great to have a lot of trees to chop close by. The only problem I've ever had not living close to grassland/badlands is for acquiring hay and granite boulders. I've since found that it is not terribly difficult to have alts just for chipping granite and gathering grass at another location.

Anything with trees for coal clamps.

Early on Coniferous has more bears IMO than Autumnal so I would go for that, it's also easier to hide digging by looking at world map.

Basically anything with trees if you are half serious about farming and feeding/gluttonying an army.

For a starter player, autumnal.
Relatively peaceful, easily found forageable inspirationals.
For mid tier characters, coniferous.
Later on wood will be needed, as well as stable food sources. Pine forests give just about that, along with singing old logs galore, and lots of old stumps to hunt them snake skulls.
For any rather experienced player, just about any biome.

Mostly I just look at the features of an area. Game trails, water source, biome borders, and relatively flat land all makes it a lot more easy to settle and get things going.

I started in Coniferous and I loved the chestnuts and wood. I didn't realize the difference piles of wood and boulders make until I explored. Being in the middle of a grassy plain with no wood or stone in sight gets old fast. I always ran out of grass and milkweed though. and maple leaves. But I was able to work around maple leaves. Usually if I had to go hunting near jamestown it was for milkweed. I haven't seen a game trail yet.
here to have fun. and horde turkey feathers. Jamestown.
