Not to derail the thread by pulling up an old post, but turkeys spawn on the oak savannah near me as well.

Good to know! I've actually only seen an oak savannah twice and I was just passing through on both occasions.

Well, I spent hours today walking in 1 or 2 directions (N,NW). I never saw any other biome but the normal grassland, small autumn spots, very very small green wetland spot?
How far should one HAVE to walk to see these changes in biomes? Is it a major change like from grass land to another totally new biome? Or will they be in small splotches like autumns and wetlands.

I just like to explore the total of Salem, but have no idea what kind of task I am taking on.. Nor do i want to wander to far from my current starter place ive set up lol

There some large swathes of area covered by only one type of biome that you can walk around for hours and not get out of. On the other hand there are places (like where I set up) where you can walk between 3 or 4 different biomes in the space of 30 minutes. It sounds like you are in the former type of area, which sort of sucks. Honestly if you are completely surrounded by only one type of biome, with only a few small splotches that are different, you might want to look at relocating. It's good to have some variety nearby, and having some large forest area is a must in a lot of ways.

Where I used to live was near a HUGE autumn forest. You could easily walk an hour through there and never leave it. Honestly, if you're really looking to do a lot of exploring you should forsake foraging for anything you're not going to consume on your trip. As long as you have an empty inventory, you can port back to your homestead from anywhere. When I have done big explorations and mapping adventures that's what I did and it worked great. If you decide to move your camp entirely, you can always just build leantos as you go so that you have a place to port to the city from or a place to get sent back to if you get KO'd without having to start your journey all over again.
