I realize EVE is a much bigger game, but the same type of ***** just blew up there about a month ago, and a significant percentage of the subscribers showed up to fight on one side or the other. People have been known to call in to work "sick" to show up to an offensive or defensive action in games, too. I really don't see anything different here.

How many sick days can you take in a row without getting fired? If it's at your 5AM and their primetime, they can try it every day.

Just a couple of defenders can rain on the parade of a much larger attacking force. Certainly long enough for help to arrive.

Unless walls are made of paper mache again.

Depends on the job and if you need to get a doctor's signature declaring you are actually sick.... :P Dem lazy ass 'Muricans!

yes, they can try it every day, and we could go into the reasons why, but there are plenty of threads on the problem elsewhere.

in Lineage2 the sieges were only possible in the weekends and had to be scheduled with the castle NPC, you could see which alliance had registered to attack or defend... lots of people participated and planned ahead to meet at the weekend, the sieges were pretty itense

This is why it is important to grow your faction to cover many tz, I realize this might not be possible with the current population, but as it increases we will definitely see bigger factions of maybe 50-100 people. I'm not saying they would all live in the same town but if they just lived in the same area they could easily help defend each other. This will become much easier once horses are implemented as this will make speedy response to enemies much more viable. The biggest problem with forming big factions such as these is that there is currently no way to make members of different factions instantly see each other as such. There is not even a way to recognize the members of your own town. If this game is to grow this will be important, having communities is what really makes people play a mmo.

Also about the Eve stuff referenced above. I was not at the big battle a few that took place a few weeks ago although I was involved in cleaning up the mess it left. But I have several corpies and alliance mates who were there and there is truly a lot of people who are willing to put a lot of time into something like that , something that is the deciding factor in a several months long war. Our main coalition fleet commander was actually home from work with the flu, but he still played the game actively for almost 24 hours to lead our fleets. That is the sort of commitment and dedication that is only born from a strong sense of community and love of a game one has placed hours upon hours into.

Sorry for the ramblings, it's late.

There is one issue here. No-life ppl got bigger advantage. Its no a whine post but just stating fact. Everyone remembers how Tribe did in old world raids for 12-24h (Mushi base attack). They are well organised and almost play 24/7 (Chief is). Even whole town of normal working ppl that have families wont stand a chance vs that (even if they defences are great). Thats the biggest flaw in Salem. I wish they would implement something like Albion Online did (alpha tests). You basicly can set a time window when your area can be attacked. This would allow for "normal" ppl to hold ground on same rules.

Don't kid yourself, people in the tribe have jobs and families and have to schedule when they can play. You're right about us being well organized though. Any other group of average people with lives outside the game could do the same as us, I guess we just make it look easy.

I really don't think the way Salem is set up makes a 'time window' fair. It's not so easy coordinating a time when a dozen people can be in the same place at the same time, especially when getting to that place can mean hours of running. Having the raid time determined by someone else is ridiculous. We already have waste claims that give 24 hours notice.
