I have no idea who came up with this brilliant idea but i can say for a fact its a very bad thing to place a random debuff with no explanation which is making survival impossible for NEW players! Do you hate ppl playing your game or what ?! >.<

Normally, things aren't so cold; it's a Christmas event. Providence being covered in snow has made town much colder than it usually is.

We do have plans to add a help screen informing new players when they enter their first cold snap that the cold system exists, how wearing warm clothes will help, how they can make said clothes easily from reeds right away, how boiling meats will give a warming broth, and how entering any structure will warm them up. However, it looks like that help screen was overlooked during the rush to finish a patch before Christmas. I've left John a message to add it as soon as he can, but Salem isn't a main job for any of us, we have to work it in around our main jobs and lives, so sometimes things take a little longer get added.

Meanwhile, I do check my PMs several times a day and am always happy to answer any questions you might have. You can also get a lot of information here reading help threads or posting questions, and we have a fairly good wiki run by the players as well. Perhaps someone will add something on the main wiki page about hypothermia.

If anyone needs a really warm set of clothes, PM me. I have a lot left.

I must admit that the last round of trolls got me salty as hell though.

As a stop-gap measure, can we have another town crier saying " If you are freezing go into the barn NW from here"
Or even better place a house which can be entered directly from monument square. The church used to be like that long ago, but now it takes affluence.

You can also go into several small houses next to the river, backside of the mainstreet in Providence!

Good point.
But there is still a Link from Startpage to Salem Wiki: Temperature.

But we could add some more Newbie Tutorial in it.

Edit: I added a notice to the Startpage ;)

you can build a farmers hovel within a few minutes of starting the game put one down and use it to get warm until you can make some clothes, or just spend 7 dollars on a hat and cape box which coupled with your newbie robe is usually good enough.
