There is now a variance penalty to studying inspirationals of the same type over and over again. If you do so, your learning ability will be reduced, and modify any Learning points you acquire from such inspirationals. You can restore your learning ability by studying a type of inspirational that you haven't studied before since your last level up. Increasing a proficiency or buying a skill (leveling up) will reset the learning ability.

I don't think the learning ability % loss values are nessesarily what need to be changed, they work nice and force you to make as many types things as you can. instead of finding the best lp/effort item and mass producing or gathering it.

the problem is the LP given/required is now imbalanced. you could also change the requirement cost of the skills themselves. its a matter of getting the balance right, again.

getting skills like horti/murder are going to be imo way too insanely grindy atm. I really don't want to play permadeath if the grind is too steep. I want to be able to die and enjoy leveling up my new character, not dread it.

tldr; varience penalty in the long run will make leveling up more fun, but the whole LP system now needs rebalancing.

so I read this before and thought I understood but only now do I truly (thank you people of IRC). you can still use multiples of the same inspirational to level up you just have to use fresh inspirationals between them and can stay at 70% learning.

not sure I like the new system now, seems a little pointless; just a flat 30% decrease to LP since its not that hard to get some choppings etc. to keep resetting it.

I prefered the idea of being completely limited in how many of the same inpirational I could use, it was less overly complicated and more challenging (albiet even more grindy)

Mhm, The problem is that i started the game and i used only one smooth stone and POOF 70%, It's quite annoying that it takes it down before i even used ANYTHING else, Had to look all over for something else so that i won't lose more LP gain :X

The LA only represents the LP modifier that will be applied if you study another of the particular item you just studied. I don't think it is that hard to understand, but the actual LA showing up on the bottom of the study window is just confusing people so perhaps it should just be removed.

It needs to be displayed in some way because if it just happens with no information to the end user then it will just confuse and frustrate people more.

Yep.

So after playing around with the new leveling system, yes it's more work, but the grind has you moving around and grabbing something other then 10 nuts. It plays a little mind trick, making you think you are doing something a bit different, but in reality the grind is the same and it go longer whether you can feel it or not. Overall, I don't think it's too bad, but it may need some balancing.
