The forum is very much part of the game, teaching that to new players is critical and anyone that concerned with "immersion" would hate a bunch of signs in game explaining mechanics.

The NPC directing people to the forum is a good start, but it is a lot of information to wade through, especially without a loose framework to begin with. For example, a board next to the executioner or courthouse explaining the rudiments of the crime system would assist new players more than a random trawl would. Helping the noobs and holding their hands are two totally different things.

I think it's awesome that you and your town are offering help to new players Heffernan.

I have played Haven n Hearth in world 6 and I can see a lot of the systems in HnH are similar to Salem. I would recommend watching videos by Westr70, they are much more informative.

They may be confusing since HnH uses different names and it has some things that Salem doesn't have and vice versa (eg. wine making, beekeeping, Salem has witchcraft and the Darkness). The game graphics may appear to be strange because Westr70 is using the Enders Client for HnH and there are options in enders that make the game look like that.

I just started to play Salem 2 days ago and I definitely consider myself to be a newb, even with HnH. So being new, I can't see what all the similarities are. I suspect mining, combat, cooking, foraging and farming are similar but they are not exactly the same in both games. At a glance, fishing seems to have a few similarities but I think it is very different. Inspirationals=Curiosities, Purity=Quality, Gluttony=Feasting. Personally, I love these games because they are so challenging. Most games, although entertaining, don't offer this kind of depth because they are aiming for a wider market in order to increase revenue.

I wish there was more trust in the game too but you can't really blame players for being anti-social. Strangers can approach you in game and be your friend for a month and then they turn around and kill you. Recruiters for towns have to watch for that new person who could be a mole or just an independent saboteur. I have had the experience of working hard for a town in HnH and after I decided to leave (I returned all of towns borrowed items), the town leader robbed me since she knew where my base was. I am lucky she didn't kill me. Betrayal is everywhere! lol

f you want to discuss Haven, let's keep it in the thread in City, please.
