This discussion started when a lowbie joined the IRC, i said witch hat forest is the best and bait disagreed, apprently he took it personally and used me insulting him as his new forum signature lol.

Anyway my point is that the topic should say "which biome is best to start as a lowbie in". The reasons i think witch hat forest rather than others is better is the array of ingredients you find their, excess witch hats/autumn grass/maple leaves/milkweed roots and other things, in addition a witch hate forest provides all the things a pine does, apart from mass amount of acorns, but it has singing logs etc too for any newbies wandering. The amount of things you can craft from it, two of which i think are really useful are " a taste of the new world" and "a taste of autumn", you also find all the stuff you find in a pine forest in it, hence why i think its better for a lowbie.

Anyway next time you have an debate about something in a game with someone _Bait dont get so hurt and offended when they call you an idiot for failing to provide any reasons to justify your opinion. I hope any lowbies looking for a biome to settle in while they level up see this thread, as i could have used it a few weeks ago.

that taken in mind ... isn't there a biome missing ?

as far as I remember, there's also a forest-like biome that spawns autumn grass (contrary to autumnal or coniferous).
Is this the witch hat forest spoken about ?
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

This isn't being offended... This is taking a rather weak conversation we had, and turning it in to something the 'lowbies' can actually use, rather than arguing meaninglessly on IRC. I'm flattered that you think I took being called an idiot to heart, but that's not what this is about so please just stick to the topic at hand.

Without me, the lowbies in the situation you found yourself in a few weeks ago, wouldn't have this thread to find. You're welcome.

No brainer really. You'll always need trees, lots of them until you can grow them.
Both Coniferous and Autumnal have plenty of trees and have a lot of useful forageables to eat and craft with.
I'd recommend either of those to a newbie as a good Place to settle for a starter camp but watch out for bears as they are commonly found there.
Grassland is okay but nothing special, for most things that you need from there you can easily tp to the Capital from your homestead.
Failed to mention the Oak Savannah that is 'friendly' and very similar but contradictory to the hostile Badlands. Not ideal but useful to have nearby more so than grassland as mentioned above.
There isn't really the best biome to settle in but an area that has easy access to multiple biomes and preferable flat.
The darkness, not recommended to newbies is a sought after area of the map
many people wish to settle for the extra benefits. But also makes relatively basic tasks such as gluttony and labouring a little more challenging than say it would in the civilised wilderness

I prefer autumnal forest for the easy access to lumber, maple leaves, gourds and old logs. Plus the mushrooms, chestnuts and wild garlic are great for early to mid-game.

My first character started out in the Woodlands, and while I do appreciate their plentiful Grass, Milkweed, and Witch's hats, they do have a few glaring resource deficiencies:
-No Chestnuts.
-No Berries
-No Lavender Blewits

Raising Blood in the Woodlands is thus...challenging.

Other than that, they're fine!

And lack of trees to begin with.

After living in the dark woods on roanoke for the 1st time i will NEVER go back to anything else.

Anyone who chose something other then coniferous needs to make a new character and see how much better it really is.
