it does. Assault will generate a scent. (as such, you don't need black skills to leave scents, only rights of hte englishmen)

No. Assault is made by the attacker. The victim doesn't place an assault scent (which isn't even summonable) for being attacked, and battery is not left if the victim retaliates and ko's the offender. Rights of englishmen is a black-skill, it leaves scents, just like rage did in H&H, which too was considered a black skill.

I have a related question. Does cutting down trees on someones' claim trigger braziers? Basically can I use trees as my outer wall.

I am not 100% on this but interacting with the tree and chopping is considered 'Larceny' and does activate braziers IF they are on a personal claim.

I was wondering because it would seriously affect my base design I might just build a temporary weaker wall outside to make sure braziers trigger, would still be grateful for a 100% confirmation.

They do leave scents (It should be waste, but it might be larceny if grandma says so), so it does activate braziers.
