Overall purity is based on the four elements. There's a formula floating around and is something like the sum of the squares of the four percentages (expressed as decimals) normalized over 0-1, in other words, 100% in any element would be 100% pure, whereas a perfectly even distribution would be 0% pure.

When crops mature, they get a random change to the elements. This means the overall purity can go up or down based on the movement of individual elements.

I was under the impression the humus used to prepare the field also mattered?

it does NOT

as can be read in several other discussions, it used to but this was long since changed (I believe in closed beta, even).
Please let these rumours be stopped :)
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

So there is no longer a point to humus purity?

For any tailors, those purity pythons are great thread and needle starters.

So yes purity compost still serve a purpose.

I like this thread. Good info.

One more question/observation regarding purity. This thread explains that fertilizers do not affect purity, so that means charcoal too does not have any affect right? In that case wouldnt charcoal be like the top fertilizer for purity grind? Just 6 or was it 8 pieces and you halved the time you need to wait for the next seeds to come out?

Coal is a fertilizer, and yes, it's the best for grinding purity.
