If you have world map you can calculate location with only 1 scent and if scents are near capital city you can calculate location using endless number of alts, so it can be very accurate method to track people.

Do you mean triangulation? That shouldn't work that well for long distance bases due to the movement of the arrow, how exactly are you doing it?

Create 5 alts, buy guidance in 5 random places, use triangulation and you should get pretty good results. More alts you use better results you will get.

its only going to give you a general MASSIVE area to look in. You are still going to be roaming for a long time trying to find the place.

More alts from different locations you use, you will get smaller area for search. That is why people are making those claims around capital cities :)

Make alt with settling, grab scent, walk towards it, build lean-to when scent runs out, port back, rinse and repeat until you reach the place and come over with main.

If that would be true you wouldn't say it is too much effort in so many posts in this thread!
If it wouldn't be accurate method you wouldn't bother so much, just like with animals attacks on capital town claims those who abused that hard said it was ok and that it is working as should be. Guess it didn't.
