Technically, in the old days, they used to use animal dung as a tanning agent after liming the hides. They actually didn't use chemicals at all back then, besides what came from the human body. Disturbing, if you think about it, but true.

I don't see them adding the ability to urinate into a bucket any time soon, though. On the plus side, animal droppings are already implemented. Maybe that could be a future option.

Technically, that is using chemicals, as many of the chemicals used today are based off of or are actually extracted from natural sources. Many of these things, such as tannic acid, occur naturally in the body (which is why you can use the brain to tan the hide of the animal you killed). Chemistry is nearly as old as civilization. They weren't idiots back then, they just didn't think of developing all the tools and theories we use today. We were still a young species and in that "fantasy" part of growing up and believed in things like "Santa Claus" and the Easter Bunny.

Well, I think it would be nice to have something else to tan with, right now tanning is pretty much reserved for *i think* those that have at least humors in the 30/30/30/30 range am i wrong? Plus id imagine you have the skill *Fencing*... That is a pretty hard goal for me, since C&D objects are far and few between, and humors are still very tough for me past 15's.

Yes. You can buy brains and kill beavers with 15 points in humours.

It does take a good be more skill to do so, though, as you can't use the easy "punch them when they attack you." 15 is the "safe" spot.

But this way does work for those who can not yet take down the deer, beavers, bears or such animals that give brains. I was just stating a small work-around for the rabbits really are not just hide dry and sell.

Yeah, they're good to dry, I just wish more things were made of dried hides, or they would create a secondary branching point that allowed limed hides to be made into rawhide, and create other things from that. For somebody in my position, the couple of silver I can get for a rabbit hide isn't worth the hours they take to make, and I'm not even very far along.

not sure what im doing wrong with "beavers" then.. right now I have 14/16/16/14 Humors, and still can not kill a beaver at all.. Crickets are now pretty easy (2 hits or so).

The two 16's are of course YB and B

How are you killing them with 7/7/7/7? :O

Ya, I know the punch and run, but a beaver normally hits 3-4 damage on me per hit..I dont see how you can avoid being hit at least twice..If not more..

Another thing to remember is to bind guard (and wander) to hotkey slots. If you switch into guard mode before they hit you, you take 1/2 damage. Beavers only hit for 1.5 damage if you do that. If you're not good at timing, just leave guard on for the whole fight. It can save your bacon.

15 humors + backyard pugilism makes beavers safe. Uppercut, then run away until they run up to you, and uppercut them again. Should take 3 hits or 2 if you grab fencing as well. (actually 15 humors is probably overkill, as long as you don't agro multiple beavers in the dance)

15 humors + backyard pugilism + fencing makes Deer safe. (but deer are still dangerous if you don't have their specific strategy down, which takes a little practice)
